Recent Reduction on the Maximum Validity of E-2 Visa for French Nationals

E-2 Visas allow many foreign nationals to start small companies in the U.S. by putting as little as $17,000 at risk. The maximum validity is 5 years (60 months), so long as the foreign national's country offers a similar deal to U.S. citizens. Recently, to the surprise of immigration lawyers, the U.S. reduced the maximum validity of this visa for French nationals, citing lack of reciprocity by France. It appears that consulates in France are again issuing 5-year visas, but this has not yet been confirmed.
