Beginning on August 19, 2024, an estimated 500,000 eligible spouses and 50,000 eligible children, currently residing in the USA, will be able to apply for U.S. Permanent Residence while remaining with their families. Foreigners who studied in the USA also become eligible for similar relief. Read more below. However, this relief may not last beyond January 2025.
Additionally, foreigners (a/k/a/ "aliens") who attended U.S. institutions of higher learning will be able to leave the USA and apply for "D3 waivers" abroad so that they can legally re-enter the USA and complete the process of becoming U.S. permanent residents. For decades, this waiver has been referenced by immigration lawyers as the "Hranka" waiver, and is authorized by INA 212(d)(3). The recent White House announcement is available at the following URL:
